An accomplished technology executive and project consultant with more than 20 years of professional experience, David S. Alderson is Director of New Applications Development in the Office of Information Technology at the University of Maryland, College Park.

As Director, David is charged with defining policies, procedures, documentation, and communication practices for new applications developed within OIT. His current project is as UM's project lead for Kuali Student and is a member of the Kuali Student Technical Steering Committee.

Before joining OIT, David was hired as Program Manager in the Office of the Provost, where he guided the business process definition of the new generation SIS.

Before re-joining the university in 2002, David served as Vice President for Engineering and Director of Financial Services for Engineering at iXL Inc. and Lead Technical Consultant at Thaumaturgix, Inc., both based in New York City. He was also employed by the university from 1985 to 1998, as a developer and finally as an assistant director.

David earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science with a minor in English from the University of Maryland in 1989.

Andrews, Josh

Mr. Andrews joined Exeter in 2000 and has a strong technical background in systems design and implementation as well as extensive experience with database management and administration.

Mr. Andrew’s recent Exeter achievements include the following:   

  • Conducting strategic IT assessments and reviews for a large community college software consortium, a large Midwestern university and a large state university;
  • Performing analysis of a leading state university campus’ systems to determine best upgrade and integration paths for systems, data warehouse and interfaces to stand-alone and third-party systems while coordinating communication between separate business units and integrating results with the overall implementation initiative; and
  • Leading a team of consultants and clients in designing and implementing the systems architecture to support the implementation of a leading software vendor’s student suite product at a large southwestern university.

Mr. Andrews has extensive experience with TCP/IP networking, VLANning, VPNs, network segmentation, host multi-homing, DNS and name resolution administration, database clustering and a deep understanding of network security and security-related issues.  Mr. Andrews’ programming skills include Java, Visual Basic, T-SQL, VBScript and WSH.  Mr. Andrews also has his MCSE certification.

Prior to joining Exeter, Mr. Andrews worked with TVN Entertainment, a California-based professional-grade video and audio content management and distribution company.  At TVN, Mr. Andrews acted as a Network Architect and System Administrator in the design and implementation of an enterprise-level website to support commerce and the dissemination of mission-critical information, with particular focus on content security.

Mr. Andrews received a B.S. in Computer Science and Philosophy from Pepperdine University.  While at Pepperdine, he assisted in a consolidation of the university’s databases into a centralized SQL Server 7.0 data store while working as the Assistant Webmaster.

His consulting experience spans multiple industries across USA, Middle East, India and South East Asia.  Sameer holds a Post Graduate in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and a Bachelor of Engineering from Mumbai University.

Asquith, Peter

Peter D. Asquith has a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from Indiana University. He is a Professor of Philosophy and has held appointments in a number of different academic units at Michigan State University. From 1990 through 2000 he served as Chairperson of Department of Philosophy and after that as Research Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Letters.  Currently, he is Senior Advisor to the Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies and to the Vice-Provost for Libraries, Computing and Technology.

He was Executive Secretary of the Philosophy of Science Association from 1975 through1996.  He has also been active on numerous other national and international professional society committees including two terms on the National Academy of Science-National Research Council U.S. National Committee for History and Philosophy of Science.

He is the author of papers in philosophy of science and informal logic, edited 10 volumes of the Proceedings of the Philosophy of Science Association, and is co-editor of Current Research in Philosophy of Science.  He is the recipient of numerous NSF and 501c3 organization grants and has served on review panels for both NSF and NEH.

Becker, Jim

Jim Becker is Executive Director of Grant Administration in the Office of Research Administration at Indiana University.  He has been with the university since 1998 in various grants administration positions.  Jim’s responsibilities include pre-award proposal submission, award negotiation and post-award account management for the Bloomington and regional campuses, as well as overall financial compliance, financial reporting and effort reporting for the university system.  He is a member of the Kuali Research Administration Functional Council, and serves as the functional lead for the C&G components of the Kuali Financial System.  Jim holds a B.S. in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis, and a M.A. in Economics from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

Belarmino, Lee

Lee Belarmino serves as the Vice President of Information Technology at San Joaquin Delta College and is responsible for all information technology services.  Under his leadership, the Information Services Department designed and developed a Student Information System (System 2000) which was a winner of prestigious industry awards.  Delta College is a founding partner in the development of the community source Kuali Financial System (KFS) and the Kuali Student System (KS).  Previously, Mr. Belarmino was Vice President of a large Silicon Valley development company that provided services to the international banking community and the aerospace industry.

Justin Beltran is a Programmer/Analyst for Administrative Computing Services at the University of California, Irvine.  He has worked on several applications as part of the Student Financial Services team.

Currently, he is working on the Accounts Receivable module for KFS Release 3.0.  Justin holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine in Information and Computer Science.

Bucior, Andy

Andrew Bucior has worked for the past eight years for the Office of Admissions and Records at Florida State University. During his tenure there, he has been responsible for design and development of office-related information resources; design and development of the office's intranet tools; integration, adaptation, implementation, and customization of off-the-shelf software; and design, development, and implementation of web-based applications and toolsets. In the course of these responsibilities, Andrew has been exposed to a substantial cross-section of the business as well as a wide range of technologies. He has been a member of a number of productivity award-winning teams in partnership with a number of other offices on campus and served as a liaison between the Office of Admissions and Records and other university entities.  Andy is currently one of the Lead Service Architect on the Kuali Student Service System.

Burnette, Rick

Rick Burnette, a 25 year enrollment management professional, has spent the last 20 years at Florida State University where he is the Director of Student Information Management. This role has allowed him to strategically address five areas: Research, Technology Integration, Systems Development, Data Administration, and Communications. He has been a visionary force at FSU for student business intelligence, CRM, predictive admissions and retention modeling, student information system development, web design, technology integration, and most recently the Kuali Student Services System. With a Ph.D. in Cognition and Learning, Rick has leveraged his experience by serving on several national advisory boards and to earn a Finalist designation in the 2006 ComputerWorld Honors Program for his work with Business Intelligence.

Rick's roles with the Kuali Student project include: Functional Team Lead (1 of 4), Functional Steering Committee Member, Team Leader for the Service Modeling Team, Team Leader for Admissions Domain and Financial Aid Domain high-level functionality teams, Kuali Student WikiMaster, Institutional Project Lead, and Institutional Communication Team Representative.

Byrne, Ailish

Ailish Byrne has been with Indiana University Information Technology Services for 8 years. She was the technical lead for the Human Resources Electronic Document and Timekeeping projects and will be managing the IU implementation of the new Kuali Financial System (KFS).  She is currently the KFS Configuration Manager (responsible for developer support, automated testing, deployment, distribution, and associated implementation documentation) and a Development Manager for the core financial system and the research administration modules. She completed a B.A. in Mathematics and Psychology at Indiana University with a specialization in Computer Science.

Cifarelli, Phil

An experienced 24-year executive, Mr. Cifarelli brings substantial financial experience to his position as Exeter’s Chief Financial Officer and head of its financials/human resources systems implementation practice. Since joining Exeter in 2001 he has served in a leadership capacity on several strategy and ERP implementation projects at large public and private universities.

Prior to Exeter Group, Mr. Cifarelli served as Chief Fiscal Officer for Skidmore College, where he was responsible for overall financial reporting, played a key role in all significant business policy issues and administrative computing infrastructure issues, and oversaw the implementation of Oracle Financials and Human Resources systems. Prior to Skidmore, Mr. Cifarelli worked as a senior accountant at KPMG, responsible for independent financial statements and compliance audits of commercial, not-for-profit, and government entities.

Mr. Cifarelli graduated magna cum laude from Utica College of Syracuse University and is a certified public accountant. Mr. Cifarelli has a long record of community service in the areas of youth services, education, and economic development.

DeStefano, Joanne M.

Vice President for Financial Affairs Joanne M. DeStefano is responsible for the offices of the Controller, the Treasurer, Supply Channel Management and Financial Research Administration.  These areas of responsibility include the preparation, maintenance, and interpretation of both internal and external financial reports, research administration, federal indirect cost submissions, the creation and development of financial policies and procedures, strategic sourcing of goods and services, payroll and tax compliance, debt and cash management, and the University Policy Office.
 
Joanne holds a B.S. degree from Syracuse University and a M.B.A. degree from Cornell University.  She came to Cornell in 1990 as General Accounting Manager for the Contract Colleges and has since held a number of progressively responsible roles in the Finance Division.  Prior to joining the university, Joanne worked in the corporate sector, as Controller for Racemark International, Inc. and as Accounting Manager for Schlumberger Inc.  She holds national Board of Director's positions with the Kuali Foundation, Kuali Financial and Research Administration system projects, and the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR).  She is also a member of NACUBO and locally, serves as a board member of Challenge Industries and will be the 2008 Chair of the Cornell United Way campaign.

Cathy Dew is President of 2Plus2 Partners, a software consulting company based in Emeryville, CA. With 15 years of information systems design and development, Cathy’s expertise is in analysis, information organization, and interaction design. Cathy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Florida. As President of 2Plus2 Partners, she focuses on three strategic service lines – information design, business analysis, and marketing communication. Continuing to build on recent success with clients such as Univ. of California Berkeley, Port of Los Angeles, and Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Cathy personally heads up analytic design and consulting services for 2Plus2 Partners.

Cathy has been working with UC Berkeley for the past four years. Starting with Housing, 2Plus2 helped map workflow and model both existing and proposed business processes. This was the basis for RFPs for new Facilities Management and Assignments systems, both of which were implemented last year. More than a year ago, 2Plus2 teamed with UC Berkeley’s Registrar to document business process as part of Student Systems 2012. When UCB joined as a founding partner of Kuali Student, Cathy and her colleague Ruth Schleifer became key members of the KS Functional Team.

Renee joined the Enterprise Business Systems Projects (EBSP) at Michigan State University (MSU) during the summer of 2007, bringing eight years of higher education experience.  She served as MSU’s Contract and Grant Administration Facilities & Administrative (F&A) rate administrator for five years.  Renee serves on the Kuali Research Administration (KRA) – Award Module providing expertise in the areas of calculating F&A rates and assisting with negotiations with the US Department of Health and Human Services.  She also actively participates in the User Interface Group for the KRA project.  In addition to her contributions on the Award Module and User Interface, Renee contributes on Effort Reporting for the Labor Distribution Module in the Kuali Financial System (KFS).  Renee came to MSU in 2003 from the Iowa State University where she provided departmental and central administration for principal investigators on post-award management while invoicing and reporting to federal agencies.

Prior to working in higher education, Renee worked in the investment business for seven years.  Renee received her undergraduate accounting degree from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa.  The Spartan and Cyclone Fan resides in East Lansing, Michigan.

Dorsey, Damon

Damon Dorsey currently works in the Operations division of Indiana University's Financial Management Services. He has been with IU for ten years and has also held positions as a Contract and Grant Administrator, the Functional Project Lead for the university time keeping system,  and the Financial Systems Training Coordinator where he provided user training, documentation and consultation services for users of various IU fiscal administrative systems. He serves as the lead on the KFS workflow functional team and was a member of the KFS user documentation team. Catherine Fairlie (Program Director) - is a results-oriented Information Systems professional with 25 years of experience, who has been involved in all aspects of System Development and Management.  Her skills include large project management, leadership of IT departments, strategic and tactical systems planning, systems integration, and application design and implementation.

Most recently, Catherine has been employed at the University of British Columbia as the Director of Applications.  In this position, she was responsible for full life cycle management of many of the University’s key applications including setting strategic direction, overseeing implementation of new technologies and maintenance and support of existing technologies.

Catherine has been the Managing Director of Eclipse Management Corporation for 12 years. Some of her key accomplishments include managing the implementation of a multi-million dollar ERP implementation project; managing an international project to merge and upgrade 3 ERP systems into one instance; and managing a project to upgrade the email systems for a company with 10 offices around the world.

Prior to working with Eclipse Management Corporation, Catherine managed the marketing and delivery of consulting services for the Western Region of Oracle Corporation Canada.  She played a significant role in developing the practice in the area of Financial Applications Implementation.

Catherine holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Richard Ivy School of Business as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario.

Fernig, Leo

Leo Fernig has ten years experience as a Project Manager at the University of British Columbia.  He has led several large projects to develop a new Student Information System.  The projects include a Self-Admission Application which won the 2003 EDUCAUSE Award for Excellence in Administrative Applications.   As a Project Manager he is responsible for developing project plans and coordinating a diverse team that includes subject matter experts, QA staff and developers.

Leo is also a lead architect for the UBC Student System.  In this capacity he has been responsible for many of the core infrastructure components and the overall architecture of the J2EE environment.  Most recently, he was the project manager for a pilot Service Oriented Architecture application based on web-services.  The new application also uses rules engine technology and in many ways anticipates the architecture being proposed in Kuali Student.

Lastly, Leo is a technology evangelist.  Through numerous presentations, papers and workshops he has consistently advocated a vision of exploiting the latest Internet technologies to create systems that are more responsive to the customer.  He has addressed a wide range of topics, from user interface design to the underlying architecture for Internet based systems.  During the past year his focus has been on promoting a vision of a new generation of student systems that meets customer needs to an unprecedented degree.

Fluharty, Troy

Foutty, Jennifer

Jennifer Foutty is the Executive Director of the Kuali Foundation.  She has worked for over 20 years in higher education, in information technology, finance, student services, purchasing, and contract & grant administration.  Jennifer has led some key projects for Indiana University, including the initiation of the PeopleSoft Student Systems project, and the negotiation to outsource the bookstores at 7 campuses at IU.  Jennifer has often been a speaker at conferences and seminars, and was a faculty member for 7 years at the WACUBO Business Management Institute.  She has also taught graduate courses at Indiana University.

Originally from China, Bin earned his M.S. from the University of Dayton in 2003, specializing in software design and database development. He is a Sun certified Java Programmer and Web developer. He currently works as the lead developer of Labor Ledger and Effort Reporting teams. Bin enjoys working with his teammates and strives to write elegant and robust code for the Kuali project.

Evelyn Griffith-Portee has worked at Michigan State University for the past 9 years in the role of Senior Management Analyst for the Controller’s Office.  During this time she has held positions in the Office of Financial Analysis preparing financial statements and the Accounting Department as the Voucher Processing Manager.  Evelyn joined MSU’s Enterprise Business Systems Project approximately 3 years ago as the Finance Team’s Workgroup Lead for the Chart of Accounts.  Part of the responsibility of the Chart Team will be to analyze the functionality of business objects and aid the institution in determining which values will be supported in KFS.

Hagen, Joan

Joan Hagen holds the position of Managing Director, Financial Management Services and University Chief Accountant at Indiana University.  She has been with Indiana University in the Office of Financial Management Services since 1997. Joan is a CPA and her responsibilities include Accounting, Financial Policies, Financial Reporting, Tax Policy and Compliance, Cash Control and Cost Accounting. She is on the Kuali Financial Functional Council and is co-chair of the Financial Transactions General Ledger Subject Matter Expert Committee.

Pam Harrington is the Financial Officer for the office of Sponsored Programs at Colorado State University.  In that capacity she is responsible for post-award and cash management for annual revenues in excess of $235M.  Principal functions include sponsor billing, reporting to both federal and non-federal external sponsors, internal control, compliance, management reporting, cost accounting, A-133 compliance audit and annual NSF survey compilation.  She provides leadership for new accounting staff training, collections, as well as working with technical staff to enhance research management system function and efficiency.

Pam also is actively involved with Colorado State University’s (CSU) implementation of the Kuali Financial System scheduled for July 1, 2009.  Her work with Kuali includes serving on the CSU KFS/KRA Executive Steering Committee, the KFS Implementation Committee and the Reporting Solutions Committee.  Pam is one of the Subject Matter Experts on the Kuali Research Administration (KRA) Award module.

Pam holds a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii with majors in both Accounting and Finance.

Tim Heidinger has been at the University of California, Berkeley for the past seventeen years. Tim is the Director of Student Affairs Computing and reports to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Tim currently leads the Kuali Student development project at Berkeley and has the following roles in the Kuali Student Project: Functional Steering Committee member, Functional Team Lead (1 of 4), Phase 2 Team Leader for User Experience Team, and Phase 1 Team Lead for the Scheduling Domain team. His previous roles at Berkeley include leading the project team for Berkeley's Student Systems 2012 project and project lead for the myBerkeleyApp project. Tim has also worked for Tufts University and the University of Chicago. Tim has a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

Kymber has worked at the University of Arizona for 20+ years and is responsible for external communications and outreach from the Financial Services Office to the campus community.

Johnson, Wil

Wil Johnson is a system architect at Florida State University and lead developer on the Kuali Student project's UI/UX team.  He has more than 10 years of professional experience developing enterprise systems, 5 of which have been related to student information systems.

In addition to general knowledge of SIS, he is a subject matter expert on student Financial Aid after leading a complete re-engineering of Financial Aid Systems at Florida State University.

Jonathan Keller

Jonathan Keller has been working at the University of California, Davis for 12 years in the Accounting & Financial Services department developing a number of systems to support the financial reporting needs of the department and the campus. In August 2006, the University of California joined as a Kuali Partner institution. Since then, he's been splitting his time between working on the Kuali Financial System and UC's own implementation project for Kuali. He is currently the lead developer on the KFS Refactoring and Enhancements team and the system architect for the UC Davis implementation of the Kuali Financial System.

Kirschenman, Chris

Chris has worked at San Joaquin Delta College for about six years, where he is currently an IT Manager.  In addition to doing hands on development, he serves as Delta’s primary architect for enterprise software.  He has been involved with development and architecture from the original Kuali Financial Nervous System all the way through to Kuali Rice and Student.  Currently he is one of the primary developers on the Purchasing Accounts Payable module.  In his management role, he leads developers on Kuali Student and Kuali Financial and represents Delta in the various Kuali technical steering committees.  A lifetime resident of Stockton, California he earned his Bachelor’s not far from home at UC Berkeley and is currently finishing off his Masters in Computer Science.

Kisters, Marilyn

Marilyn has managed the procurement systems at Indiana University for the past 20 years.  She was one of the principal members of the team that designed the university’s current Purchasing/Accounts Payable system.  This system was ultimately adopted by Kuali as the Purchasing AP module.

Marilyn became the co-chair of the SME (subject matter expert) group for the Purchasing AP module in 2007.  The group has been designing specifications for the essential enhancements that will be implemented in the 3.0 release.  Her background of bridging the gap between functional and technical teams has been essential to the completion of these designs. 

Marilyn also has an extensive background in modeling data for decision support.  She has implemented one of the University’s first dimensional data models for the Purchasing and Travel systems data which is used for end-user reporting for Indiana University.

Letsinger, Eric

David Lyons is Liaison to the Kuali Project for The National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).

Lyons was Vice President for Business and Finance and Treasurer of The Rockefeller University where he served as a key financial strategist and administrator under four university presidents. Prior to joining The Rockefeller University, he held administrative appointments at the University of Chicago and the University of Rochester; and faculty appointments at the University of Rochester and Loyola University (Chicago).  David Lyons received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Chicago.

Lyons is currently a director of the American Skin Association and treasurer and chair of its finance committee. He is a director of the Research Foundation of the City University of New York and chair of its audit committee.  He has served on the boards and taken leadership positions in the affairs of several organizations and received numerous awards for accomplishments in higher education financial management including the Distinguished Business Officer Award from NACUBO. Previous awards include NACUBO’s Daniel D. Robinson and Neal O. Hines Awards and the CAUSE (now EDUCAUSE) Award for exemplary leadership in the advocacy and support of administrative systems in higher education. He has been a consultant to software organizations and to colleges and universities.

McGough, Brian

He has worked at Indiana University for 10 years where he is the Director in the Enterprise software unit.  Brian's unit is responsible for the rollout of rice within Indiana University to support the installations of the KFS and KRA rollouts, but in addition IU is committed to leveraging the Rice platform for much of its ongoing systems development work.

McNeely, Kathleen

Kathleen is the Associate Vice President of Finance and Executive Director of Financial Management Services at Indiana University.  She has been with Indiana University since 1982 in various financial administrative positions.  Kathleen’s responsibilities include Accounting, Tax Compliance, and Reporting, Financial Reporting, Capital Assets, Non-student Receivables, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Cost Accounting.  She is currently a member of the NACUBO Research Universities Council and was a member of NACUBO’s Accounting Principles Council from 1997 to 2003, serving as chair in 1999.

She is the 2003 recipient of NACUBO’s Daniel D. Robinson award, which recognizes individual excellence and leadership in the advancement of college and university accounting and reporting.  Kathleen is the member of the Kuali Financial System Board and chair of the Kuali Financial Functional Council. Kathleen is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars dealing with accounting standards, internal controls, fund accounting, and other fiscally related topics. Nahm, Cindy

Cindy Nahm is Assistant Registrar at the University of British Columbia.   She is responsible for academic services that support the University community and develops strategies that anticipate and reflect the broad administrative needs of students, faculty members and administrative units.  Cindy has a Masters in Educational Technology and is interested in fostering learning and collaboration through technology both in the classroom and at the workplace.  She has developed and delivered SIS training programs for the UBC community and continues to research best practices in delivering tools to support the administrative needs of students, faculty and staff.   Cindy is an active participant and frequent presenter with several higher education organizations and has presented on topics including business process streamlining, degree audit and academic advising, the paperless office and best practices for transfer students.

In the past, Cindy has worked as a web consultant and has collaborated on several projects with a branding and web design company.  She is currently working with the Kuali Student User Interface User Experience team and interested in principles surrounding user centered design.

Neal, Jerry

Oliva, Lisa

Lisa joined the Enterprise Business Systems Projects (EBSP) at Michigan State University (MSU) during the spring of 2006 as the workgroup lead for the research administration area. She brings eight years of higher education experience to EBSP including three years in the pre-awards office in the College of Engineering. Her areas of expertise include proposal preparation, post-award oversight, and compiling college-level reports.  Lisa serves as the co-Lead SME of the Kuali Research Administration (KRA) – Proposal Development & Budget Module.  In addition, she serves on the User Interface subgroup and is a member of the KRA Functional Council.  Before coming to MSU, Lisa worked as the business manager of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Kettering University where she managed all departmental accounts, supervised staff, and served as the project manager on several laboratory renovation projects.

Prior to working in higher education, Lisa worked for an automation distributor for five years where she served as the statewide training coordinator.  Lisa received her Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan in 1999 and her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University in 1993.  The Spartan and Wolverine Fan resides in Ionia, Michigan.

Olson enjoys 30 years of higher education experience, with leadership positions in campus, corporate, and association environments.  Mr. Olson has led the development of campus administrative systems, implemented major administrative systems, led major corporate web development efforts, and has overseen significant business change and business development initiatives on campus and in corporate settings.  Olson has published dozens of articles, two books, and is a frequent speaker at industry meetings.

In June 2001 he took the position of Fiscal Officer in the School of Education on the Bloomington campus. In December 2003 he returned to Financial Management Services in his current position. On the Kuali project he serves as the lead on the chart of accounts functional team. He graduated from the IU School of Business in 1991 with a BS in accounting.

Parrish, Susan

Susan is an Associate Director of the University Budget Office, a position she has held since 1998.  For the first part of her career, Susan worked in IT as a programmer/analyst.  In 1990 she came to work for Indiana University as Secretary of the Board for the Indiana University Trustees, a position she held for eight years before joining the University Budget Office.  She is involved with fiscal analysis, the yearly budget process, and state appropriation requests.  She works with the Kuali budget construction subject matter expert group, and will serve as testing coordinator for the budget module.  She holds a bachelor of business administration with a concentration in management and marketing from West Georgia University.

I joined the Indiana University Foundation (IUF) in 1991 after seventeen years in the financial services industry.  While with the IUF, I have spent much of my time working with back office operations and endowment administration.  Among the projects undertaken at the IUF have been:

  • Implementation of a general ledger accounting system.
  • Updating the endowment reporting to the university.
  • Modification of the method of endowment administration.
  • Design and implementation of interfaces between core systems.
  • Design and implementation of the IUF Endowment and Trust Accounting (ETA) system which is the basis for the Kuali Endowment Module (KEM).


For the duration of the project, I will serve as the KEM Business Analyst, working closely with the functional team and the application developers.

Pierce, Shelley

Shelley Pierce is a native Californian raised in the Silicon Valley region of the state.  Mrs. Pierce received her B.S. Degree in Business Administration from San Jose State University, 1984.  Upon graduation from college, Mrs. Pierce spent the next five years in Boulder, Colorado learning the accounting profession and furthering her education in accounting and taxation.  Shelley has served in various accounting capacities mainly in the private sector during her twenty year career including:  Accountant, Accounting Manager, Administration Manager and most recently as Senior Accountant for San Joaquin Delta College.  Mrs. Pierce has extensive experience managing people and special projects and is skilled at handling both simple and complex accounting tasks. She has also been involved in leadership training and development, strategic planning, policy and procedure development, system implementation, process improvement, cost reduction strategies and currently serves as the Lead Subject matter expert for the Kuali project, Capital Assets Team.

From lead developer on OSP 1.5 to Technical Council member and developer on the Kuali Financial System project, Tony's work on open source projects has spanned many fronts. Prior to co-founding rSmart, Tony graduated from Arizona State University with a technology degree focused on interactive computer graphics. After graduation, Tony went on to write seven computer books on subjects ranging from Java development to 3D graphics.

Chuck Ruch is the Associate Provost for Information Resources and Technology at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.  His responsibilities include all areas of traditional IT, Computing Services, Customer Support Services and Instructional Technology and Media Services as well as some more unusual areas – the campus Library, our Public Radio Station (WCBU) and Communications Engineering Support.  CES, in addition to the campus network, telecommunications and cable television services supports the broadcast engineering needs of our NPR radio station, WCBU, and supports the engineering needs of the local public television station, WTVP.

Bradley University is a comprehensive, Masters level institution with approximately 5300 undergraduate and 700 graduate students.  Our administrative applications are either written in house or are separately purchased commercial applications.  Our need is for a set of applications that are actually designed and written for higher education and can be integrated with our other applications.  Hence, our interest in adopting a strategy that includes Kuali and adopting our in house applications to the Kuali architecture.

Vincent Schimizzi, CPA, is currently Assistant Controller at Michigan State University (MSU).  Vince has over 23 years accounting and financial management work experience in public accounting, private industry and higher education, the last 15 years at MSU.  At MSU, he has held positions in central administration, and both academic and support units on campus.  His experience includes being responsible for the preparation of the University’s audited financial statements, overseeing central accounting operations, and as Assistant Controller representing MSU’s financial functional needs for the Kuali Financial System, as well as being the financial team leader for MSU’s overall Enterprise Business Systems Projects.  Vince has a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and is registered as a CPA in the state of Michigan.

Lori leads the Preaward section of Sponsored Projects at the University of Arizona, which includes proposals and incoming awards.  She has been in research administration (both preaward and postaward) for 14 years.

Sinex, Charlie

Spann, Bill

Bill Spann has more than forty years experience in higher education at the University of Maryland. During that time he worked as the Associate Director of Admissions, the University Registrar, and the Associate Vice President for Institutional Research and Planning. Bill was the first director of the University’s Office of Academic Data Systems. This office was created to develop and implement data systems that served academic administrative offices.  He served as a functional architect on all of the university’s student systems for more than thirty years. He also created and chaired Maryland’s Enrollment Management Committee.  After his retirement in 2006, Bill returned to the university to work on the Kuali Student Services System team.


Spencer, Richard

Richard Spencer is the Acting CIO and AVP Information Technology at the University of BC. He is currently working on a project to develop a next generation, community source, student services system. Richard has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and came to the UBC as a faculty member in 1968. He became Registrar in 1988 and Registrar and Director, Student Services in 1993, and brought a strong focus on excellent service to students, supported by leading edge Web enabled systems, to these areas. As Registrar, Richard led the project that developed UBC's Student Self Evaluation and Self Admission system, which won the Educause Award for Administrative Information Systems in 2003. Richard joined UBC's IT department in 2000.

Stapleton, Heather

Stine, Eric

Eric Stine re-joined Exeter Group in 2007 after a successful career with SAP, where he served as Vice President of SAP's Higher Education practice (2002-2006).  During that time, Eric developed expertise in business process analysis and design across a range of higher education business areas, including finance, grants and sponsored programs, university endowment management, alumni and institutional development, student information and services, enrollment management, purchasing and procurement, human resource administration, payroll and employee and manager services.  Eric's experience was honed through assisting public and private universities including Johns Hopkins University, Purdue University, Duke University, and the universities and university systems of Cincinnati, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska and Tennessee.

Prior to joining SAP, Eric worked in Washington, DC handling legislative policy matters related to information systems, telecommunications, tax and finance policy during the 105th and 106th Congresses.

Sutton, Barb

Barbara Sutton is the Functional Lead for Cornell University’s KFS Implementation Project.  She also serves on the KFS Functional Council, numerous KFS Module SME teams, and the KFS/KRA Integration team.  After spending more than twenty years in corporate finance and management, Barb came to Cornell’s Division of Financial Affairs (DFA) in 2003.  Prior to joining the Kuali project in 2005, she was a key contributor to several of DFA’s internal systems projects and played an integral role in re-engineering the Disbursement Review function.

Sutton, Eben

Mr. Sutton started his career at the University of Idaho in Housing Services overseeing housing, food service, residence life, and student government accounting before moving into the Student Loan Office.  From the Student Loan Office he transitioned into more general Student Accounting within Business and Accounting Services, then to Finance & Administration Systems before coming to UC Davis in 2002 where he has been for the last 6 years.  Mr. Sutton oversees the Student Accounting, Cashier, and Employee ID Card offices at UC Davis.

Jim is the Director of Enterprise Business Systems at Indiana University.  He has been with Indiana University since 1987 in various information technology positions.  Jim’s responsibilities include enterprise systems supporting HRMS, Payroll, Timekeeping, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Financials, Accounts Receivable, Capital Assets,  Research Administration, Travel, and Ecommerce.  Jim is also currently Project Manager for the Kuali Financial System project.  Jim holds a B.S. in Business from the IU Kelley School of Business and a Masters in Public Affairs from the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Thorne, Scott

Enterprise Software & Data Architect
MIT

Scott Thorne has had a twenty year career at MIT as a Developer and Architect, and currently has the role Enterprise Software & Data Architect. He's spent much of his career doing system design and integration of enterprise systems and software infrastructure, including data warehouse, Person Id and authorization systems. He was most recently the lead Architect of the O.K.I. project doing service contract design. Scott is a lead Service Architect on the Kuali Student Project and a member of the Technical Steering Committee.

Thornhill, Lauri

Business Manager
Michigan State University

Lauri Thornhill has worked at Michigan State University for 31 years as a Department Administrator and Budget Officer, most recently as the Business Manager for one of the largest departments at Michigan State University.  Lauri joined MSU’s Enterprise Business Systems Project approximately 2 years ago as a data analyst and workgroup lead for General Ledger.  As part of the project’s Finance Team, the GL workgroup, works on evaluation and implementation of the Kuali Financial System.  She has provided a unit perspective for the project as MSU moves forward into the implementation phase, as part of the charge to the project team has been to make the system work well for units as well as centrally.  She has worked extensively on parameter analysis and evaluation for MSU’s needs and workflow administration in the KEW environment.

Tyson, Claire

Acting Vice President of Business Services
San Joaquin Delta Community College

As Acting Vice President of Business Services at San Joaquin Delta Community College, Claire Tyson serves as the lead functional representative for Community Colleges on the Kuali Financial Project.  She possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and an MBA with a concentration in Managerial Accounting.  In addition, her experience in Accounting and Finance spans more than twenty years and includes lead / participation in numerous computer system implementations.  Claire serves as subject matter expert on the Workflow, General Ledger, Reporting and Chart of Accounts modules of the Kuali Financial System.

Uyeda, Gord

Senior Project Manager/Technical Architect Systems
University of British Columbia

Gordon Uyeda is a senior Project Manager/Technical Architect with the Systems Department of Enrolment Services at the University of British Columbia.  He has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of the University’s Student Information System development.  Gord has over 12 years of project management experience and is currently managing the final phase of the Student Financial module development, the University’s compliance with the PCI (Payment Card Industry) Data Security Standards, and the integration of Ad Astra’s newest release of their resource scheduling product into the SIS.  In addition to his project manager role, he is also managing the Enrolment Services Technical Support Group.  Gord is actively participating in the integration of Agile and Service Oriented Architecture principles into the Kuali Application Architecture’s development methodology and work plans.

Gordon has made a number of presentations at Canheit, CUMREC, JA-SIG, PACRAO and AURUCC conferences.  In addition to having served on the Ad Astra Client Advisor Board, he has also presented at their annual user conference.

Villalobos, Marcel

Senior Sponsored Projects Administrator

Marcel Villalobos is a Senior Sponsored Projects Administrator at The University of Arizona. He works in Post-Award Administration. Marcel is a SME member for Labor Ledger in the KFS project. For the KRA project, he is a part of the Usability and Design group and the Functional Council.

Westfall, Eric

Principal Systems Analyst
Indiana University


Eric Westfall is a Lead Developer on the Kuali Rice project.  In this role he is in charge of the Kuali Enterprise Workflow, Kuali Service Bus and Core modules of Rice.  He has worked as a member of the Systems Integration Team at Indiana University for 3 years where he leads Rice implementation and integration efforts.  IU's Rice implementation includes integration with numerous mission critical systems such as Human Resources, Purchasing, Timekeeping and Student Information Services.

Wheeler, Brad

Vice President for Information Technology & CIO and Professor of Information Systems
Indiana University Kelley School of Business


Dr. Brad Wheeler is the Indiana University Vice President for IT & CIO and Dean of IT with responsibility for all of the university’s highly leveraged IT services for the eight campuses. Prior to becoming the CIO, he held several roles as the Assoc Dean for Teaching and Learning IT, AVP for Research Computing, and AVP for Community Source Initiatives. He currently serves in leadership roles for over $20M of shared university investments in open source software and serves on the board of the Sakai Foundation and chairs the Kuali Foundation Board. As a Professor of Information Systems at IU's Kelley School of Business, he has taught MBA courses in Executive Leadership of IT Strategy and e-business/e-learning courses for corporate/academic audiences in 26 countries on six continents.

Wilson, Tyler

System Analyst

Tyler works on the Kuali Research Administration project as a Proposal and Award SME member, and has contributed effort to the Quality Assurance/Testing effort for KRA Release 1.0.  At Colorado State, he developers database applications, and developed the Proposal submission application used by Investigators and the Sponsored Programs Office.


Yeoh, Kim

Assistant Controller and Project Director, Kuali Implementation Project

Kim has worked at Cornell University for over 20 years in a variety of financial positions.  She joined the Division of Financial Affairs in 2003, and in addition to serving as Project Director for Cornell's KFS implementation, she oversees the central accounting and financial reporting functions of the University.  She is eagerly anticipating Kuali at Cornell!

Zimbardo, Suzanne

Assistant Director, Financial Services Office-Operations
The University of Arizona

Suzanne Zimbardo is the Assistant Director, Financial Services Office-Operations, at the University of Arizona.  She has been with Financial Services for 21 years and with the University of Arizona for 22 years.  Suzanne has been involved with the Kuali Financial System (KFS) development for the past 3 years as the lead subject matter expert (SME) for Labor Distribution Module and the Effort Reporting Module.

Her professional background includes management within various areas at the University of Arizona including, Accounts Payable, Travel, and Payroll Services; and has been involved with cash management payroll accounting, and project management.  Her current focus is payroll services, domestic and foreign taxation, educational development, and automation/next generation project development, management, and implementation.   In addition, for over 11 years Suzanne was an adjunct faculty member at Pima Community College instructing courses in accounting.

Since entering the payroll profession in 1979, Suzanne has managed payroll processes and functions at a vocational technical school, medical facilities, and governmental agencies.  Suzanne holds a BS in Business Administration from The University of Arizona and is a Certified Payroll Professional since 1995.
